FALCON HOTEL

Location: Chapel St, Stratford Upon Avon CV37

Complete restoration & refurbishment of c1500 timber framed Tudor building and adjoining Georgian block along with the remodelling of the more recent hotel building.

The Falcon hotel is situated on a busy town centre street in the heart of the tourist town of Stratford Upon Avon we were awarded the contract by Rugby based building contractor Stepnell Ltd following our recently completed work around the corner at ‘The Swan Wing’, the oldest part of The RSC theatre.

The works required a freestanding scaffolding and temporary roof to give access and weather protection to the historic façade so specialist contractors could remove the entire roof structure along with all of the brick & plastered infill panels between the timber frame. The project involved us having to back prop all of the internal floors from the basement upwards to enable us to erect both support scaffolds from the flat roof areas to support the temporary roof and an internal ‘birdcage’ scaffold to the top floor to act as a crash deck and also a means of tying parts of the external scaffold back to.

The front and side elevation scaffolds were particularly awkward because there was limited space on the existing footway used daily by a large amount of pedestrians and a tight road junction. The solution was to erect the scaffold using ‘Tubelock’ with ‘KLAWZ’ fittings then laying 750mm diamond beams flat along the length of the scaffold across various lifts to transfer the loads back to the loading bay and chimney breast.

The HAKI temporary roof was built at ground level within the rear courtyard and lifted into place by a crane.
