Back in 2013 the church was forced to close due to concerns that the church spire may actually collapse.

Working closely with PB Scaffold Design Ltd, Tamworth Scaffolding Co Ltd erected a fully boarded masons scaffold to allow the stonemasonry contractor to careful dismantle the spire, there was talk at the time that the spire may one day be rebuilt, but to this day it still remains only a tower.
